Why it was built
The existing Shopify setup handled the basics, but the client wanted a better storefront experience and significantly more control over catalog, inventory and business workflows.
What went into it
Reworked the customer-facing storefront with a new visual direction, improved color combinations and custom sections including brand showcases, collections, product sliders, testimonials and packaging videos.
Rebuilt the admin system beyond basic product management, adding brands, categories, attributes, variants, barcodes, inventory management, SEO and media management.
Working across the frontend, backend, database and deployment while planning the implementation and execution of development work across a three-person team.
Chose MySQL for the application database and deployed it on Railway, balancing familiarity, team experience and the project's requirements.
Integrating Shiprocket for shipping operations and working on additional customer and business workflows including WhatsApp CRM.
Moving the store away from a more limited Shopify setup toward a custom platform with greater control over features and ongoing development, while keeping the implementation within the client's budget.
Technical decisions
- 01
Moved the commerce logic into a custom application instead of continuing to extend the existing Shopify setup.
- 02
Used MySQL because it was familiar to the team and well suited to the project's requirements.
- 03
Focused on building the additional commerce and operational features within the client's budget rather than adding unnecessary complexity.
Outcome
The project is moving toward a custom commerce platform with greater control over the storefront, catalog, inventory, SEO and operational workflows. Shiprocket integration is currently in progress.
